Christopher Pittman at 12 years of age was charged as an adult for the murder of his grandparents.
These crimes were committed while Christopher was under the influence of Zoloft, and having an Involuntary Adverse Reaction Event ( Involuntary Intoxication ) to an adult medication prescribed to him that was not approved for children under the age of 18.
Held in a juvenile detention center for 3 years as a 5'2', 96 pound 6 th grader and did not sit before a jury until he had grown to be a 6'1' and 150 pound young man. He was then tried as an adult, convicted of murder and sentenced to 30 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
His sentence is the minimum mandatory sentence allowed by South Carolina laws.
At the age of 12 without the benefit of legal representation or a parent being present, allowed to waive his Miranda rights, without audio or video taping gave multiple statements to the interrogators, Christopher at the age of 12 years old considered by law as a pre adolescent was not protected by any of his Constitutional Rights by South Carolina Law enforcement.
At the young age of 12 years old, Christopher was not given the opportunity to speak to his father who was outside the door asking to see his son. Christopher was not told his father was even there until after he had given 3 statements to the Interrogators.
The Question that has to be addressed is:
How can we has a society try pre-adolescents under any circumstance the same as we would an adult? The US Supreme Court has ruled in Roper Verses Simmons That Children under the age of 18 are different than adults and should be tried differently in death penalty cases, thus abolishing executions for crimes committed by those under the age of 18.
Now this nation must rule on our youngest of offenders as Christopher's case, to change the laws throughout this nation on the no minimum age for trying children as adults.

During Christopher's incarceration, Christopher's Bill (The Juvenile Justice Reform Act was written on behalf of Chris and all children being tried as Adults.

During Christopher's trial , his defense team had to make a life size cutout of what Chris looked like at the age of 12. Christopher had grown so much between the ages of 12 to 15 , that when his trial was set 3 years later he had grown into a young man.
The South Carolina Supreme Court ruled that Chris's case was not prejudiced because of the long wait to trial or the impact his growth had on the jury. Who did the jury sentence in the courtroom ? A child of 12 that committed a crime or a young man at 15 ?
Did the long delays and lack of scheduling his case to trial help win the case for the prosecution? It was after all their job to get this case to trial as speedy as possible.
Christopher at the day of his conviction stood as tall as the 50 year old attorneys that represented him.
